A Broward System of Care for Youth in Transition and their Families
One Community Partnership 2, or OCP2 for short, aims to help Broward transition-age youth become successful adults. OCP2 focuses on youth and emerging adults ages 14 to 21 that have behavioral health challenges, like emotional or mental health, and may also have substance use (drugs and alcohol), trauma, or abuse. Moving from one point in life to another (“transition”) is not always easy and for many people, finding help in the community can be even harder.
OCP2 brings together youth, families, friends, agencies, community and faith organizations, schools and others to support Broward County youth and help them overcome their challenges. This is what we call a “System of Care”.
Children and adolescents younger than 14 or emerging adults over 21 who need help can also receive information to other agencies that provide services that may help them.
OCP2 continues the work of the 2002-2008 One Community Partnership (OCP1) grant, which targeted children and adolescents (10- 18 years of age) who had serious emotional or behavioral health challenges. OCP1 redesigned the array of children’s mental health services in Broward County into a comprehensive coordinated system of care and developed Broward’s high fidelity Wraparound initiative. OCP2 is an expansion of this effort to ensure that transition-age youth with multiple and changing needs, navigating both the children and adult systems of care, can remain in the least restrictive settings in their community, stay in school, out of the juvenile justice/legal system and attain and maintain a physical-mental-emotional-spiritual recovery.
This initiative began September 2014 through a System of Care Planning Grant to Broward County from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Broward Behavioral Health Coalition (BBHC), the Broward County managing entity for mental health and substance use services, is implementing the grant in partnership with Broward County Children’s Services Administration Section, the Children’s Services Council and other community partners. In 2015, OCP2 was awarded the Expansion and Sustainability grant that will provide funding through 2019. OCP2 is part of a national movement to improve the lives of children, youth, and young adults.
